2012 Mossik JouJou Cabernet FrancWhite Rock Vineyard, Napa Valley
Eager for an encore
Buoyant from the results of my debut effort (still in barrel at the time) and with better yields from the blissfully smooth and steady growing season, I twisted Christo’s arm for more fruit this year. One whole ton - enough to produce a whopping 50 cases of wine - infant’s play by commercial standards. I changed little save for a bit more tidiness and confidence, and crossed my fingers that 2011 would not prove a one-hit wonder.
Middle child, all grown upThe hubris from having done this all of once before could have been dangerous, but thankfully conditions kept me in check. 2012 was an ideal vintage. As much as I wanted to helicopter over this wine, it simply never needed it. It effortlessly made its way into a social butterfly of a wine. Its appeal is immediate: fresh and juicy with floral notes leading, I’m smitten with the classic fresh violets nose.
